Who
may
tryout
for
CHS
volleyball?
Rising
9th
through
12th
grade
girls
who
have applied
and
been
admitted
to
Columbus
High
School.
We
have
3
teams:
Freshman,
JV,
and
Varsity.
A
player's
skill
level
determines
which
team
they
are
on.
Each
team
has
anywhere
from
9
to
12
athletes.
When
are
tryouts?
August
1st
2011
9:00am-2:00pm
at
CHS
Gym
Must
I
have
a
current
physical
on
file
to
participate?
Absolutely!
No
athlete
may
participate
in summer
open
gym
or
tryouts
without
a
physical.
You
may
get
a
physical
from
your
family
doctor
or
the
health
department.
Physicals
are
valid
for
1
year
from
the
date
administered.
What
are summer
open
gyms?
Open
gyms
are
provided
for
players
to
improve
their
volleyball
skills
through
drills,
individual
instruction,
and
practice
games.
Summer
Open
Gyms begin May
31st.
Typically
freshman
Open
Gym
is
two
nights
per
week
-
Tuesdays
&
Thursdays
6:00pm-8:30pm.
Summer

will
be
posted
on
our
website
home
page.
Am
I
required
to
attend summer
open
gyms?
No
open
gym
is
mandatory
prior
to August
1st.
However,
it
is
strongly
recommended
that
you
attend
in
order
to
improve
your
skill
level
and
be
prepared
for
tryouts.
When
are summer
open
gyms?
Once
you
have
applied,
been
accepted
and
are
admitted
to
CHS
you may
attend
summer
open
gyms.

Should
I
attend
an
individual
summer
volleyball
camp?
Players
benefit
greatly
from
attending
a
volleyball
camp.
Most
universities
offer them.
Check
their
websites
for
more
information.

University
When
is
volleyball
season?
Volleyball
season
begins August
1st.
The
Freshman
and
JV
seasons
finish the first
week
of
October.
The
Varsity
season
lasts
until
the
end
of
October.
Can
I
participate
in
other
activities
during
volleyball
season?
If
you
make
the
team,
we
will
practice
or
have
matches 5
days
per
week.
Freshman
and
JV
teams
typically
practice
after
school
from
3:45
to
5:30pm.
Varsity
practices
are
from
4:15-6:30pm.
CHS
volleyball
requires
a
serious
commitment
by
all
team
members.
Most
of
our
athletes are involved
in
other
CHS
sports
and
activities
after
volleyball
season
is
over.
We
consider
it
important
to
be
well
rounded
both
athletically
and
academically.
If
I
make
the
team,
can
I
miss
practice?
CHS
athletes
pride
themselves
in
attending
all
practices.
Attendance
at
practice
affects
playing
time.
If
I
make
the
team,
what
will
I
have
to
pay
for?
Your
shoes,
socks,
knee
pads,
spandex,
t-shirts,
and
athletic
bag.
All
of
these
team
items
will cost
~$250.
CHS
volleyball
will
provide
your
jersey.
